The city of Hervey Bay lies on the Fraser Coast a scenic 3 hours drive north from Brisbane and only 45 minutes by air from Brisbane. It boasts warm sub-tropical days and safe swimming beaches all year round and with over 1.2 million visitors per year, offers all the conveniences of a capital city.

Hervey Bay is known as the Whale Watch Capital of Australia. It is the only place in Australia where you are guaranteed a sighting of a whale during the whale watch season, which runs from mid July to early November. Whale Watching is popular in Hervey Bay as it is one of the only places in the world where the Humpback Whales seem to befriend their whale watchers, swimming and playing around the vessels and putting on some amazing acrobatic shows for their audience. It is not unusual to see up to 20 whales or even more during a single cruise tour.

Hervey Bay is not only the Whale Watch Capital, but also the Gateway to the World Heritage Listed, Fraser Island. Fraser Island is the largest Sand Island in the world and is heritage listed due to its unique environment, flora and fauna. Classed as one of the best sand four wheel driving terrains in the world, Fraser Island also has many attractions well worth visiting including crystal clear fresh water lakes, centuries old dense rainforests, kilometers of white, sandy beaches, shipwrecks, and some of Australia's most pure native animals.

In addition to Fraser Island, Hervey Bay is also a main access point to Lady Elliot Island. Located on the southern tip of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, Lady Elliott Island is renowned for breathtaking scuba and snorkeling experiences amongst stunning coral reef teeming with hundreds of species of tropical fish, manta rays, and giant turtles. If you’re more land based inclined, the island also offers beautiful nature walks along which you can see historical artifacts, the lighthouse, and a myriad of wildlife. The island is well known for providing nesting to thousands of birds during the nesting season, and offers humpback whale watching from July to October.

Hervey Bay is literally home to a multitude of enjoyable attractions. Spend some time relaxing in the many foreshore reserves and parks, or wander through the lush Botanical Gardens in Urangan that were built on 6000 year old sand dunes. Visit the Arkarra Lagoons and Balinese Tea Gardens, where nestled amongst 30 acres of sub tropical rain forest you can hand feed fish, turtles, ducks and native wildlife. Take a tour of the 8000 exhibit strong Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum, or immerse yourself in the exhibitions of the Hervey Bay Regional Art Gallery. Have some fun at the Aquatic Centre, catch a sunset at Gatakers Bay, visit the local Aquarium, or check out Vic Hislop’s popular Great White Shark Expo. Keep your camera free to take some shots of the huge Flying Fox colony at Pialba, estimated to be a million strong at times. Watch the Flying Foxes as they fill the sky en-masse at sunset. And there are many, many more attractions.
