Cool Dingo Tour experience - written by backpacker Dora Traudisch Please note the tour may vary from this itinerary FRASER ISLAND - The word has a magical ring to it. Immediately we arrive at Kingfisher bay we board the 4x4 bus and experience our first roller coaster ride over the sandy pathways. Our first stop is Pile Valley: a 30-minute stroll through a subtropical rainforest. It is nice and cool here and peaceful. After lunch it is time for a swim in the turquoise water of Lake McKenzie. I let the others play "lake ball" and rest on the soft snowy white sand. Some moments in life are just perfect and this is one of them. We stop by the rusty Maheno shipwreck which looks like the film set to a pirate movie. Our next stop is the Champagne Pools that are filled with bubbling seawater, nature's version of a Jacuzzi. On to Indian Head hoping to spot pelagic sea life like turtles and sharks. The view is spectacular: ocean, beaches, sand blows and forest as far as my eyes can see. Two sea eagles circle high above me. When I turn around I see the others like intrepid explorers descending from one high dune down. deep down into the valley of sand. I feel like a space cadet, exploring an unknown planet. And just when I get really hot and sweaty and curse the sun and sand - there it is, like a hallucination out of nowhere: and emerald green lake against a backdrop of a lush eucalypt forest. I enjoy swimming in the water with the view of the sand dunes so much that I never make it to the look-out where you can see the ocean, the lake, sand dunes and forest all at the same time.
